Alaska has always been on the list and my wife Ann came up with an unusual way. We took an inshore ferry from Prince Rupert Canada to Juneau via several small islands. The journey was great but Juneau is not very exiting. Fortunately we picked up a stunning 1930s timber boat for a 10 day tour of the area. This was not really a tour for wildlife photographers but sailing in a beautiful old boat into wild estuaries and small communities was outstanding. The country is vast and the bears can be very big so it is not easy country explore.
